about

This is the volume 5 of my on-going collection "Zombie in Zambia". It was commissioned by the Art Zoyd Studios in Valenciennes (France). I spent two weeks with the amazing Max coder Oudom Southammavong who made all my electronic fantasies come true. Yes, I should mention that "Chilli and bonbon in Chililabombwe" is for electric cello and live electronics. Note that all the electronic shenanigans are controlled by the cello itself going through audio descriptors. There's not a single pedal or fader or keyboard involved.

Other things I've learnt in the process:

- Valenciennes has a vast offer of restaurants, many of which are really good.
- All the episodes of "Zombie in Zambia" do not have to be 1 hour and 3 seconds long. Free the durations!
- It's spelt "Chilli" in British English and "Chili" in American English.
- What "bonbons" actually are in English.
- There are not many photos of Chililabombwe on the Internet.

Fun fact: There is a score for "Chilli and bonbon", which also includes instructions on how to play all the other episodes of "Zombie in Zambia". Available on request or if you buy this album. (Yeah! My first item of merch!)

Sad fact: I was supposed to go to Zambia this month but most flights have been cancelled and it got too complicated, expensive and risky to go. ("Risky" because if Europe decides to keep Southern Africa on red list forever I'd be stuck there even though the region is not more "risky" than a taking the tram in Geneva at 5pm.)

Personal tip: If you have a vial containing a deadly virus in your left hand, please refrain from playing Candy Crush with the other hand. It doesn't end well for anyone.

Bonus: There's a documentary about the making of the original cello version of Chilli and Bonbon in Chillilabombwe that you can watch here: youtu.be/FHHakaWG9l8 .
